Beaver Mines -- The Beginning of the Summer Vacation 2011

As all good vacations should, we began this vacation with a weekend with dear friends in Beaver Mines at Stepping Stone Cabins. Always a joy to be there and to see good friends, and to meet new friends. In spite of two minor disappointments (the fabulous Frank Slide Liquor Store is closed indefinitely – part of a matrimonial financial “readjustment”, and the really good Millarville Pub was closed for a private function on the Friday evening) we had a wonderful weekend.

We spent time with the Kelly / McDougall family, enjoyed some conversation and beverages with them. We went for a short afternoon drive to Sparwood, BC, then had a great lunch at the Rumrunner in Coleman.

The Saturday evening was capped off by a wonderful dinner with our good friends, Cathy and Gord, and some friends of theirs. Always a treat to have dinner with Cathy and Gord. They love to entertain, and we love to be entertained.

This weekend in Beaver Mines was bitter-sweet. Our beloved adopted Beaver Mines family, the Kelly’s (Kevin, Jolaine, Neige, and Autumn) are moving to the Comox Valley on beautiful Vancouver Island where new adventures await them. We will, of course, see them there when we have a chance to visit the island. We’ll still be back to Beaver Mines because it is very much a part of us now. But it will be different!

We wish them all the best.

Love you!
